My White's Tree Frog has been spitting up a stretchy mucus-like substance from his mouth, what could this mean?
Scenario: I understand that these tree frogs eat a lot, but the last time he ate something was approx. a month ago (only one meal worm). The temperature inside his tank has stayed between 79-86 degrees F. Humidity 70-78%. I researched the plants present in his tank and none have toxins.
Starting a month ago and up until recently he appeared very bloated, and red veins became noticeable on his belly. Now, he is getting too thin, still refusing to eat (crickets or mealworms), and continues to spit up the stretchy mucus I mentioned earlier. I don't know of any exotic animal veterinarians in my area. Advice on how to help him would be truly appreciated. Thanks.
I know reptiles are prone to a condition called mouth rot; I am not sure if amphibians can get it, too. But the symptoms are exactly what you are describing, and if it is mouth rot, it is very advanced. Your frog probably needs antibiotics. Are you sure there aren't any exotic animal vets in your area? Did you get your frog from a pet store nearby, or is there a pet store nearby that sells exotics? If so, the pet store will probably have a contact for a reptile vet.
