People say breastfeeding a baby saves so much money?
But it seems that nursing moms spend a lot on stuff related to breastfeeding and some of its really expensive. It doesn't really seem accurate to say its "cheap" to breastfeed a baby.
Yes, my wife breastfeeds and we've spent a ton on supplies and medications.
I support her, I just think people over misrepresent breastfeeding - I hear a lot that it's "cheap and easy to do."
When you mention breastfeeding on here, everyone has an opinion. I breastfed my first 2 kids and it was free. I used a regular pillow and our couch and bed to breastfeed. Ok, nursing bra and pads..40.00 at the most.
Now, for my third baby, I am formula feeding. Breastfeeding didn't work out, so let's see. I have spent about $300.00 on bottles (yes, that's right..he has reflux and after trying all the bottles b/c we thought it was the bottles, the doctor figures this out.) Formula is $23.00 a can and he goes through 1 full can and a half can a week. Now, sometimes he will drink a full 6 ounces and sometimes 1 ounce. We never know, so we have to fill the bottles to 6 everytime, becasue if we were to fill it to say, 4 ounces..he will want more, but if we make more, he wont go back to it. Make sense? Bottlefeeding is VERY expensive. Thank god I could breastfeed my first two. If I ahd realized I may not have been so quick to give up trying with this one.
Oh, and my MOther gets me formula from her hospital whenever she can, and it is STILL so expensive.
