Son's first birthday party?
My son will be turning 1 on April 7 and I'm starting to plan some things for his birthday. What I'm wanting to know is, how much did you do for your child's party? Big blowout or small family thing? Also, any tips or ideas you wish you'd known at the time would be helpful. I want this to be memorable (even though we'll be the ones with the memories, not him lol), but I want it to be enjoyable and fun for me and our guests. Thanks!
My son will be turning 1 in March. We're keeping his party small and immediate family only so it isn't overwhelming for him. We'll have the usual cake and my husband will be grilling burgers for guests. It's easy and inexpensive. We're doing a railroad theme for the big day so I found some cute memory type keepsakes as favors at trainparty.com and celebrate express. We're having it at a a local park (free for use) for just 2 hours one afternoon. For other kids that will be there entertainment is built in with the playground area so I don't have to worry about providing them something.
For games I'm not really doing any but I am getting some cute themed note cards and will ask each guest to write a message to the birthday child about how much he means to them or simple birthday greeting. I'll put them in his birthday scrapbook with photos of his special day as a keepsake.
No matter what you tell people they are going to bring gifts of some sort for the birthday child. I don't like "adopt a programs" because to me they diminish what adoption really is from an adoptive parents perspective. What I'm going to do is put away things and through the year pull out a toy that will be new as he outgrows things or loses interest in other toys. That way there is always some fun and excitement in his toybox year round. If you get duplicates of anything that you have or that more than one person bought you can always donate the extra one to a shelter or charitable cause for someone else to enjoy. Another thing I've done with duplicates is leave one at Grandmas house in a laundry basket for toys in the closet. That way when we visit there are familiar toys and it saves us the problem of always having to take something with us to play.
