How to deal with potential guests who have not responded to wedding invitation?
We are getting married in 3 weeks. A lot of people have not responded to our invitations.
Inside of each invitation was a self-addressed stamped envelope. All the invitees had to do was write in how many were coming.
We have to pay $25 per meal. I don't want to purchase extra meals in case these people come to the wedding and just forgot to respond.
I have mentioned it to several people I know well that did not send theirs back and they said they had just set the card aside and meant to send it back.
Should I contact the other people that have not responded to see if they are going to come? I don't want to be rude... but it is very frustrating to plan a wedding and not know how many guests there will be.
What is the best way to deal with this problem?
People are very inconsiderate these days. When you have to pay for meals, it's not great if no one is there to eat them. On the other hand, if you only get meals for the people who responded, you'll have a whole bunch of other people show up and you won't have enough food for everyone.
By all means, do contact the other people. You aren't being rude, THEY are! Since you have already sent a stamped, self addressed envelope for their reply, this time just send a plain note, something along the lines of:
Our caterer's deadline is (give a date about half way between today and the wedding) and we need to know the exact number of guests who will be attending.
If your reply is already in the mail, please ignore this. If not, please let us know as soon as possible if you will be sharing in our special day.
If that doesn't spur a reply, then assume they are not coming.
Sorry your wedding is plagued with something like this, but manners don't seem to be very much in vogue these days.
